Cricket is the most popular and most enjoyed sport in India. Cricketers in India are considered as not less than celebrities. Cricket is played between two teams, each with 11 players, including the captain. The captain takes all the important decisions of the team like setting the field or choosing the bowlers. A good captain makes all the right decisions and makes the team win. The main role of a captain in cricket is critical and management takes great care in choosing the right captain for the team. 

Captains That have Led the Team in ICC Finals: 

The Indian cricket team is considered one of the strongest teams in the world. It has won the 2007 T20 World Cup, and 2011 ODI World Cup but hasn’t won the ICC tournament since 2013. Since MS Dhoni’s retirement, Rohit Sharma has been leading the Indian cricket team in tests; he has become the fifth Indian to lead the national team in the ICC tournament after commanding the squad in the 2023 World Cup Test Championship finals. MS Dhoni played in ICC tournaments 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup final, 2013 Champions and won all three of them. Virat Kohli played in the 2017 Champions and 2021 WTC finals and lost both of them. Saurav Ganguly lost both the 2000 Champions trophy and the 2023 World Cup final. Kapil Dev played in the 1983 World Cup final and won. He was the first captain who made India win its first World Cup. 

Most successful captain in India: 

Some say MS Dhoni was the best captain and many others prefer Virat Kohli and Saurav Ganguly as successful captain in India. The older generation prefers Kapil Dev because, during his captaincy in 1983, India won its first World Cup trophy. Here are some of the records of one-day international captains and their records: 

  1. Rohit Sharma in the span of 2017-2023 has an overall win of 73.07%.  
  2. Virat Kohli in the span of 2013-2021 has 70.43 as an overall win. 
  3. MS Dhoni in the span of 2007-2018 has an overall win of 59.52%. 
  4. Rahul Dravid has an overall win of 56% in the span of 2000-2007. 
  5. Kapil Dev has an overall win of 74% in the span of 1982-1987. 
  6. SR Tendulkar has an overall win of 73% in the span of 1996-2000. 

Here are the records of Twenty20 captains:

  1.  Hardik Pandya has an overall win of 77.27% in the span of 2022-2023.  
  2. Rohit Sharma has an overall win of 76.47% in the span of 2017-2022.  
  3. Virat Kohli has an overall win of 64.68% in the span of 2017-2021.  
  4. MS Dhoni has an overall win of 59.28% in the span of 2007-2016.

Cricket is an amazing sport and is loved by all the Indians. Whenever there is a match, where India is playing and has won, that day is celebrated like a festival here. Cricketers are not treated less than a celebrity here. India has made its name internationally by playing and winning a lot of matches.
