They add a unique touch, and these are some of the best and most interesting art types in video games.
There used to be only two types of art in video games: 2D and 3D. These days, technology has improved so much that even brand-new games use old designs to make a point or bring back memories of a different time. These designs are a mix of computer-generated pictures, animation cells, and hand-drawn art.
The art style in video games that have characters and scenes that are different from the norm is often just as creative. There are role-playing games (RPGs), side-scrolling games (side-scrollers), and games that are more about the experience than the fighting.

ToggleJourney
Journey is a one-of-a-kind game that is built around a unique and awesome physical experience. It’s not like other games where you have to fight your way along a road—at least not against other people. You can’t even die. Each frame is built on a color palette that goes with the rest of the game. The style is thick matte.
The idea behind this video game is weird and maybe even pointless, but the visual show is what makes it fun to play. The plot, characters, colors, puzzles, and other secrets are all very pretty to look at.
Hades
Hand-drawn art styles got a big boost from the game that made rogue-like caverns and old gods cool again. In addition to being an isometric dungeon crawler, this one-of-a-kind game had a story, a lot of interesting places to explore, and even a fishing minigame.
Some bright colors were used to draw attention to important details in Hades, like Zagreus’ red hot feet. The art style was great for the hot gods who helped the son of the God of the Underworld try to get out of Hell.
Cult Of The Lamb
It was so cute and weird and scary all at the same time that there were cute little cartoon animals in a game about cults and sacrifice. The art style was isometric, and it used bright, simple colors and simple patterns instead of ones that were hard to understand.
As the game went on and more settings were found, more fun information about the art style became available. This includes perks like giving followers different icons that each showed a different, sometimes strange, animal or the ability to build portals that can turn them into funny little demons that float around.
West Of Loathing
This type of art is brilliant because it doesn’t have a name, but after playing West of Loathing for a while, you realize that this simple design isn’t as simple as it seems. It’s a 2D game that looks and feels like the typical old West. It’s set up like an old shooter or point-and-click PC game.
Even though there isn’t any color and the designs are all stick figures, everything is unique, original, and often funny. Shades Over Loathing, the second game in this series, makes fun of the Lovecraftian horror theme and has the same style.
Ōkami
The idea behind Ōkami‘s art style is that a game based on Japanese lore should have an art style that shows where it comes from. The colors and lines make me think of a watercolor picture or art print from the Middle Ages. This is so important that it’s even part of the game.
The Celestial Brush is a feature that lets the player use different art styles and skills. For example, they can use it to draw a gust of wind during a fight scene or to cross a bridge by drawing in the broken part. Other games still haven’t come up with a better idea.
Old School Runescape
It had a unique art style that showed it was based on Java, even when it was one of the only MMOs out there. It’s straight, simple, and has a basic color scheme that creative artists use in a lot of different ways, which is a nice surprise given how old the game is.
The latest version of the game is great for gamers who want a more up-to-date version of the same thing, but it doesn’t have the same retro charm.
Minecraft
That’s what people see when they play the game, just like the unique art style. Everyone knows the art style of Minecraft, even people who don’t play games or know much about them. This is a sandbox game where you can build or destroy almost anything. It’s meant to be easy and pretty, and it works.
Java was used as a computer language, which explains the heavy, simple color scheme and sharp lines. It’s a procedurally created world full of things that players can find, take, and use to make their own artistic worlds.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda video game series has been around for a long time, so it has used almost every type of animation. Even the first Nintendo 2D games were praised for their art and style. This animation style isn’t liked by everyone because it’s used in Wind Waker, but it’s something that none of the other games in the series have.
The people who worked on this look wanted to make something that hadn’t been seen before in the series. They went against the trend toward realism at the time by using a more cartoony look. The more modern games use both kinds of animation together.
Cuphead
This game’s reputation for being very hard makes its other fun and interesting features stand out, like the retro art style that looks like an old cartoon. It’s not just the figures’ shapes and styles that make me think of a time before video games. The simple color scheme and 2D platformer genre also do.
Even though it looks like a cartoon, Cuphead is not a game for kids. Doodle Cricket players with a good eye for detail will notice how the enemies and settings are designed in a way that is often very scary.
Myst
A first-person point-of-view puzzle game called Myst was the first game to really show how good a game could look. It has an interesting past because it was one of the most profitable games ever made. It only cost a few thousand dollars to make in the 1990s, and it still makes money today.
People played puzzle games back then, and the point-and-click style worked well with them, so Myst wasn’t the first game of its kind. However, the way it used CGI to make several unique 3D worlds was groundbreaking and beautiful to see.
